Police Neutralise Suspected Bandit, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against banditry, neutralising a suspected armed bandit and recovering an AK-47 rifle with live ammunition during a security operation in Wamako Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, operatives responded swiftly to a distress call reporting an attack on Daraye Village by heavily armed bandits in the early hours of July 4.
The police engaged the attackers in a coordinated operation, forcing them to flee. During a follow-up combing exercise, one suspected bandit was neutralised, while an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 28 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered.
The command said confidence-building patrols have been intensified across the area to reassure residents and prevent further criminal activities. Nearby police divisions have also been placed on high alert to track down any fleeing suspects.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen public safety and combat banditry and other violent crimes across Sokoto State and the wider North-West region.
