NDLEA Arrests 67-Year-Old Nigerian-British Woman Over Alleged Cocaine Smuggling at Lagos Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 67-year-old Nigerian-British woman at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 13 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside fake plantain peels.
According to the agency, the suspect was intercepted during a routine screening by NDLEA operatives, who discovered the illicit substance carefully hidden in specially fabricated plantain replicas designed to evade security checks.
The agency described the concealment method as sophisticated but noted that intelligence-led operations and thorough inspections enabled officers to uncover the narcotics before they could be trafficked.
NDLEA stated that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to determine the origin and intended destination of the illegal drugs, as well as identify other members of the suspected trafficking network.
The anti-narcotics agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking through Nigeria’s airports, seaports, and land borders, stressing that it will continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence operations to dismantle criminal syndicates involved in the illicit drug trade.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
