The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is facing fresh scrutiny over its published candidate lists ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, following complaints about omitted names and possible errors.
One of the disputes involves former Minister of Communications Isa Pantami, whose legal team has asked the commission to include his name on the final list of governorship candidates in Gombe State.
According to a report by Channels Television, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Pantami issued INEC a deadline of October 14 to address the matter.
His lawyers argued that the commission should recognise the outcome of a court-ordered rerun of the party’s governorship primary.
Separately, concerns have also emerged over the Edo State House of Assembly election list, where two candidates were reportedly listed under both the PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement.
INEC’s Edo office acknowledged the duplication and said the matter had been referred to the commission’s headquarters.
The developments have raised questions about the accuracy of candidate lists and the need for transparency in the electoral process.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the commission faces growing pressure to resolve disputes promptly and ensure that eligible candidates are properly reflected in its records.
