UTM Offshore has secured a major gas supply agreement for its proposed $3 billion Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to expand its natural gas industry and boost exports.
The agreement provides a key foundation for the development of the project and is expected to move it closer to a Final Investment Decision (FID), which could be reached later this year. Industry stakeholders view the deal as an important step toward unlocking Nigeria’s vast gas reserves and increasing the country’s participation in the global liquefied natural gas market.
Once operational, the floating LNG facility is expected to enhance Nigeria’s gas processing capacity, create employment opportunities, attract new investments, and generate additional foreign exchange earnings. The project also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy of promoting natural gas as a driver of economic growth, industrial development, and energy security.
Energy analysts believe the latest development reinforces investor confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector and highlights the country’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading LNG exporters.
