Opposition Moves Towards Single Candidate Against APC
The Nigerian opposition is considering an arrangement to present a single presidential candidate against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Salihu Lukman, convener of the G100 political pressure group and a former APC national vice-chairman, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Hard Copy.
Lukman explained that discussions about uniting opposition parties had progressed beyond the initial group of six political parties involved in the process.
He said the parties and their presidential candidates had taken a more active role in determining how the proposed alliance would operate.
According to him, allowing opposition candidates to contest separately could divide their supporters and make it easier for the ruling party to retain power.
The discussions come amid preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with political parties working to strengthen their structures and attract voters across the country.
Opposition figures have continued to debate the best strategy for challenging President Bola Tinubu and the APC.
However, whether the parties will eventually agree on one candidate remains uncertain.
The proposed alliance could become a significant factor in the election, depending on the level of cooperation among the participating parties and their supporters.
