Nigeria Revenue Service Generates ₦21.6 Trillion in First Half of 2026

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has announced that it generated ₦21.6 trillion in revenue during the first half of 2026, reflecting a significant increase in government earnings driven by ongoing tax reforms and improved digital tax administration.

According to the agency, the strong revenue performance was made possible through the expansion of the tax base, enhanced compliance measures, the deployment of digital tax collection systems, and improved efficiency in revenue administration.

The NRS stated that recent reforms have strengthened tax collection processes, reduced leakages, and encouraged greater voluntary compliance among individuals and businesses across the country.

Officials noted that the improved revenue generation is expected to support the Federal Government’s efforts to finance critical infrastructure projects, strengthen public service delivery, and reduce dependence on borrowing and oil revenues.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining transparent and technology-driven tax administration while working with taxpayers and other stakeholders to promote economic growth and fiscal sustainability.

The latest figures highlight the impact of Nigeria’s ongoing tax reform agenda as the government continues to modernise revenue collection and improve the country’s overall fiscal performance.
