The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has alleged that several politicians who benefited from President Bola Tinubu’s support over the years withdrew their backing when he declared his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Yilwatda made the remarks on Friday at the APC national secretariat while welcoming defectors from opposition parties in Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano and Plateau states.
“People that he has supported all through from the North and South, when he said he wanted to contest, most of them pulled out their support,” he said.
According to the APC chairman, Nigerians who recognised Tinubu’s contributions to national unity and democracy eventually rallied behind him and voted for him in the 2023 presidential election.
He praised the president for what he described as his commitment to national unity and for having “defended democracy with his life and his blood.”
