271 More Nigerians Evacuated from South Africa as Government Intensifies Repatriation Efforts

The Federal Government has announced that another 271 Nigerians are expected to arrive safely in Lagos today as part of its ongoing evacuation of citizens affected by recent unrest and xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

According to government officials, the evacuation is being coordinated through relevant agencies in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions in South Africa to ensure the safe return of those impacted by the violence.

The latest group adds to the number of Nigerians already repatriated following weeks of tension that disrupted livelihoods and forced many residents to seek emergency assistance.

Authorities have assured the returning citizens of necessary support upon arrival, including reception, documentation, and access to essential services where required.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerians living abroad while continuing diplomatic engagement with South African authorities to address the underlying causes of the attacks and prevent future incidents.

Many of the evacuees expressed relief at returning home safely after enduring uncertainty and insecurity during the unrest.
