Federal Government Condemns Killing of Two Nigerians in South Africa, Demands Justice
The Federal Government has strongly condemned the killing of two Nigerian citizens during recent anti-migrant violence in South Africa, describing the incident as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
In a statement, the government called on the South African authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the attacks, ensure those responsible are brought to justice, and strengthen measures to protect the lives and rights of foreign nationals residing in the country.
The Federal Government expressed condolences to the families of the victims, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians living abroad. It also urged South African authorities to take decisive steps to prevent further outbreaks of xenophobic violence and promote peaceful coexistence among all residents.
Nigeria emphasized the long-standing diplomatic and economic ties between both countries, stressing that acts of violence against foreign nationals undermine the spirit of African unity and cooperation.
The government further stated that it will continue to engage with South African officials through diplomatic channels to ensure justice for the victims and enhance the safety of Nigerians living in the country.
