CONTROVERSY: Peller Faces Backlash After TikTok Bans Carter Efe’s 5.6m-Follower Account

Nigerian content creator Peller has come under scrutiny following the resurfacing of an old video in which he appealed to fans to report fellow creator Carter Efe’s TikTok account.

The development comes days after TikTok permanently banned Carter Efe’s main account for the second time in just over a year.

The video began circulating on social media on September 9, with users drawing links between Peller’s appeal and the subsequent removal of Carter Efe’s account.

Carter Efe, a popular streamer, comedian and musician, lost access to his official TikTok page, which had amassed more than 5.6 million followers and 158 million likes.

Screenshots of an enforcement notice shared online indicated that TikTok removed the account over repeated violations of its Community Guidelines.

In the resurfaced clip, Peller is seen on his knees, appealing to his audience to report Carter Efe’s page. He accused the fellow creator of sabotaging other content creators and suggested a strategy aimed at getting the account taken down.

However, there is no confirmed evidence linking Peller’s appeal directly to TikTok’s decision to ban Carter Efe’s account. The enforcement notice cited repeated violations of the platform’s policies as the reason for the ban.

Carter Efe Loses TikTok Account for Second Time

This is the second time Carter Efe has lost a major TikTok account.

In June 2025, his previous account, which had approximately 3.5 million followers, was removed following controversy over comments he made about Afrobeats superstar Wizkid during a livestream.

The comedian later rebuilt his audience, growing his following to more than 5.6 million before the latest ban.

Ban Sparks Debate Among Nigerian Creators

The latest development has renewed discussions about competition and rivalry among Nigerian content creators, as well as the challenges of building a digital audience on platforms governed by strict moderation policies.

The controversy has also raised questions about the potential impact of creator disputes and coordinated reporting on the visibility and sustainability of social media accounts.
