Re-elect My Husband, We’re Working To Make Nigeria Better — Remi Tinubu

First Lady empowers 2,500 Imo women, gives beneficiaries additional N100,000

OWERRI — First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to voters in the South-East to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during her official visit to Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday, Mrs Tinubu said she and the President were committed to building a better Nigeria.

She urged residents of the region to support her husband’s bid for another term, saying she also wanted to witness a better country as she grows older.

“Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better,” she said.

The First Lady made the appeal while overseeing an empowerment programme for women in the state.

She explained that the initiative was being implemented through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and would ultimately benefit 18,500 women nationwide.

According to her, 500 women from each of the five South-East states would receive various items to strengthen their businesses. The items include generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cylinders and ovens.

However, Mrs Tinubu disclosed that Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, had provided additional empowerment packages for 2,000 women in the state, increasing the total number of beneficiaries in Imo to 2,500.

In recognition of the governor’s gesture, the First Lady announced an additional N100,000 cash support for each beneficiary.

She said the programme was aimed at acknowledging the significant contributions of women to nation-building and economic development.

“Recognising the typical role women play in nation building, this is in line with the agenda of Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises economic growth and sustainable development for all Nigerians, particularly women,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the items and financial support, stressing that the resources should help improve their livelihoods and enable them to provide better support for their families.

“Let it serve as a foundation for creating a better life for you and your family,” she added.

Uzodimma backs Tinubu’s 2027 bid

In his remarks, Governor Uzodimma commended the First Lady for her contributions to national development and her efforts toward improving the welfare of Nigerians.

The governor said Imo residents appreciated what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration and would support the President’s re-election in 2027.

Uzodimma also praised the Federal Government’s women empowerment initiative, describing it as a programme designed to promote the dignity and economic independence of women.

He said residents of the state had witnessed various infrastructure and development projects carried out by the Federal Government.

“Let him know that Imo people are happy with him, that we are happy with his performance. Let him know that he is doing very well, that we stand with him and that we deeply appreciate his resolute commitment to a stronger, more prosperous, safer and more united Nigeria,” Uzodimma said.

He further pledged the state’s support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“I assure you that we will reciprocate this love. We will stand firmly behind our beloved President in January 2027. We will speak with one united, unequivocal voice to stand by those who have consistently stood by us,” he said.

During the visit, the First Lady was also honoured by the traditional institution in Imo State with the chieftaincy title Osodieme.
